But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
– Matthew 6:33 (NASB)
I remember this verse due to a frequent Alleluia hymn we sing in Mass. I find it one of the best statements proclaiming the need to place our faith in God, and what will become of us if and when we do so. Placing our faith in God is like getting into a good-quality taxi and you know where it will be going – though not necessarily how to get there. Placing our faith in other things, however, leads us to an undesirable destination, however much fun the journey is.
Because God made us in His image and likeness, He already knows what we want and need in life. Sometimes, He is aware of these when we ourselves are not. Allowing God to not control us (for that would imply a lack of freedom), but be there as a powerful, reassuring, guiding force, thus, opens us up to discovering our deepest desires. Once we do that, everything will fall into place like a perfectly-solved jigsaw puzzle. It doesn’t guarantee that it will do so in a moment’s pause, but it guarantees that it will all come together, and the end result is something beyond our wildest imaginations.
Wishing you all the best as we begin a new week!
